Reliance MediaWorks Burbank is the world’s premier motion picture imaging facility. In the past 10 years, we’ve developed sophisticated proprietary software programs that deliver unparalleled results for a variety of applications including restoration, remastering, SD to HD upconversions, large format films, new production emergency work, 3D correction, and many more. Originally Lowry Digital, the company was founded on the concept that advancing displays will require a higher quality image. In 2008, the company was acquired by Reliance MediaWorks.
Known globally as the gold standard in film restoration, our body of work includes such titles as Citizen Kane, Singin’ In The Rain, Casablanca, Sunset Boulevard, the Indiana Jones trilogy, the original Star Wars trilogy, twenty James Bond films, and numerous classic Disney animated films. To bring these films back to their original glory we remove dirt, repair scratches and damage, stabilize jitter and weave, remove flicker, correct color breathing and dye fade, and perform detailed image enhancement.
The Imaging Technology Center supplies technologies to
Reliance MediaWorks units engaged in media services to provide them with a technology
edge to surpass competition. The Center also investigates new technologies and
commercializes them with an eye to improving efficiencies and profit margins.
Due to the unique challenges of digital capture, our services continue to be in high demand with newer productions like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The West Wing, 24, Fight Club, and The DaVinci Code. Our image processing methods can unify capture sources, remove x-ray contamination, repair soft focus issues, and remove digital artifacts.
We also offer exciting services for 3D projects. At the Burbank facility, we’re able to help filmmakers ensure the best possible 3D experiences for audiences. Our 3D alignment correction and precise eye matching services alleviate the eye strain that has traditionally been an issue for viewers. Films like Avatar, X Games 3D: The Movie, Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, U2 3D, and Step Up 3D have all taken advantage of our expertise in this area.
Producers and directors of large format films come to us for an array of solutions customized for giant screen projects. Large format releases regularly require a significant blow-up from their native capture. Our proprietary motion imaging software conceals artifacts, reduces high noise levels and enhances fine detail for superior tape-to-film and digital blow-ups.
There is an emerging market where lower resolution images need to be taken to a higher resolution format in order to repurpose standard definition catalog materials for HD broadcast or distribution. We have quality uprez capabilities that far exceed the compromises associated with today’s hardware solutions. Recent SD to HD projects include two seasons of The Simpsons and the anime series Haibane Renmei.
